Our Company

Quietly building financial understanding, one reading at a time.

Lestari Hikmah was founded with a simple conviction: that the adults most in need of clear financial thinking are the ones the mainstream education system left behind.

Our Story

Where Lestari Hikmah came from

The name means something like "lasting wisdom" — a phrase that resists urgency, which is exactly the point. Lestari Hikmah was registered in Kuala Lumpur in 2017 after its founder, who had spent fifteen years in adult continuing education, noticed that most personal finance programmes in Malaysia were aimed at younger working adults or at people with enough existing knowledge to keep up with fast-moving content.

People in their forties and fifties — with EPF accounts they had never properly read, insurance policies accumulated over decades, and a growing awareness that retirement was no longer theoretical — were largely served by sales-driven settings or left to figure things out alone. That observation became the starting point.

The first programme was a small reading group of eight people, held once a week for four weeks in a rented meeting room in Bangsar. The format survived — largely unchanged — because participants kept saying the same thing: that it was the first time financial content had felt like something they were in dialogue with, rather than something being done at them.

Seven years later, Lestari Hikmah occupies its own premises at 218 Jalan Maarof. The programmes have expanded to include document literacy and a longer retirement engagement track, but the group sizes have stayed small and the pace has stayed unhurried. Those two things have not changed because the people who come to us have asked us not to change them.

Our Mission

To offer a space where Malaysians past forty can read carefully about their own financial situation — without pressure, without jargon, and without being directed toward any particular product or provider.

Our Values

  • Patience: Good understanding is not built in a single session. We take the time the material requires.
  • Honesty: We acknowledge what we do not know and do not overstate what education alone can achieve.
  • Respect: Our participants are experienced adults. We treat them as such.
  • Independence: We have no commercial relationship with any financial product provider.

Standards & Practice

How we hold ourselves to account

The absence of commercial pressures does not mean the absence of rigour. These are the commitments we keep to our participants.

Curriculum Review

The document literacy and reading hour materials are reviewed before each new cohort against any changes to EPF rules, LHDN guidelines, and BNM regulations.

No Product Referrals

Lestari Hikmah does not receive referral fees, commissions, or any compensation from financial product providers. Our income comes only from programme fees.

Participant Privacy

Personal financial details shared during sessions are treated in confidence. Participant information is not shared with third parties. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Educational Scope

Our programmes are registered as adult education activities, not licensed financial advisory services. We are clear with participants about this distinction before they enrol.

Feedback After Each Cohort

Every cohort completes a written feedback form. We read each one and use them to adjust session structure, reading selections, and pacing for the next group.

Pre-Programme Consultation

Before the retirement engagement programme begins, we hold a short conversation to understand whether the participant's situation and the programme's scope are genuinely a fit.

Financial education that fits where you are

The over-forties in Malaysia occupy a particular financial position. EPF accounts accumulated over careers are approaching their most consequential phase. Insurance policies taken out in one's thirties may no longer reflect current needs. Family financial commitments — school fees, ageing parents, property obligations — compete with the slower-burning question of what retirement will actually look like.

None of this is unusual. What is unusual is having a quiet space to read about it carefully, with people in a similar position, without being asked to sign anything at the end. That is what Lestari Hikmah offers. Not urgency. Not a formula. Just reading, conversation, and the kind of understanding that comes from taking your time.

Our programmes are conducted in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, with a consistent focus on Malaysian financial documents, Malaysian regulations, and the real paperwork that sits in people's filing cabinets — not hypothetical scenarios from another country's financial system.
